Transform Your Finances, Transform Your Life
A Supportive Guide for Salon Owners & Small Business Owners
When I first started out in business, I didn't give much thought to money. I was too focused on growing my team, serving clients and creating opportunities for young women fresh out of beauty school to have what I wished I had as a young hairstylist. I was passionate about building something bigger than myself, something that could change lives. In my enthusiasm, I let all the money stuff go to a bookkeeper, trusting they had it covered.
Then, one day—one unforgettable day—I realized I had to get my act together. I had poured my heart and soul into this venture, but if I didn’t start paying attention to my finances, it would all be for nothing. I didn’t know exactly how to manage it, but I was determined to figure it out. And let me tell you—it was surreal. That’s when everything shifted.
Now, I can live with peace of mind, free from the stress around money. And I want you to experience that too.
I don’t share this to brag, but because for the past six years, I’ve been helping women—just like you—take charge of their financial futures. The transformations I’ve witnessed have been nothing short of miraculous. When you gain control of your finances, you take control of your life. You get to live on your terms.
If you’re not there yet, I know it might feel overwhelming. But trust me, it all starts with one simple decision:
“I am going to take control of my finances.”
That one commitment is powerful. It shifts your mindset from uncertainty to action. And once you make that decision, you’re already halfway there. Now, let’s break it down into manageable steps.
Step 1: Get Organized
Start by creating a dedicated space for your financial information. A simple binder or digital folder can work wonders. Seeing everything in one place allows you to track your progress and identify your next steps. You are setting up your foundation. It my take a hot minute, but trust me on this one. My Vault Binder and Google Drive are my go to places for all of my things.
Step 2: Identify Your Priorities
Once you’re organized, take a moment to assess where you stand and what needs your attention:
Do you need a strategy for debt reduction?
Are you setting aside enough for: Savings? Emergency Funds? Retirement? College planning?
Do you have the right insurance in place to protect yourself and your business?
Have you prepared a will to secure your loved one's future? Has your partner secured one for you?
Are there areas where you could reduce spending to free up money for things that bring you joy?
Are you paying the right amount of taxes—not too much, not too little?
If you own a business, are you in the best tax category to maximize savings? This alone could save you thousands.
Step 3: Make a Plan & Stick to It
Once you’ve identified your priorities, it’s time to create a plan. Set clear goals, break them down into actionable steps, and commit to them. Discipline yields freedom.
Review your plan monthly to ensure you stay on track. Life and business evolve, and your financial strategy should evolve with them. Conscious spending is much better than, “Oh sh!t, another bill I forgot about.” Put a time block on your calendar for an hour each month.
